Lyrics Analysis

Lyrics to Call Me Up :

[Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah]
Call me up.
[Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah]
Call me up.
You can call me up,
Day and night,
Whenever you need someone to talk to, girl.
She can call me up,
All the time,
These fourteen numbers never felt so right.

I know it seems somewhat extraneous,
You ain't heard of this,
'Cuz I hung up on you many times before.
But now this ocean seperates us,
And I can't fake it,
But I've been wanting to hear your voice.

How do I explain this kind of feeling?
I never got enough attention as a child.
And now I'm staring at the ceiling,
With the phone in my hand,
Hoping you'll make it ring.

[Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah]
Call me up.
[Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah]
Call me up.
You can call me up,
Day and night,
Whenever you need someone to talk to, girl.
She can call me up,
All the time,
These fourteen numbers never felt so right.

Alright, so I gotta card and I got his number,
So...is it...
Is it 0-1-1, 3-3,
How 'bout this 6, Is there like a 6 in there? Or is it 0-6?
Um,
I cant even really hear anything,
Goddamit, Ugh!

Call me when you're sad,
Call me when you're mad,
Call me when you're home alone.
Call me when you're freaky,
Call me when you're nasty,
Call me when you wanna...
And if you're really upset you can call me collect,
'Cuz you know I'm not gonna mind.
At the drop of a dime you could drop me a line,
And I'll make it worth your time.

[Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah]
Call me up.
[Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah]
Call me up.
You can call me up,
Day and night,
Whenever you need someone to talk to, girl.
She can call me up,
All the time,
These fourteen numbers never felt so right.

You can call me up,
Call me up.

Above are the lyrics to Call Me Up by Chromeo, The general jist of the song we get is that the artist is talking about how this girl can call him up no matter what time or emotion she is feeling she is always welcome to get in contact with him.

"These fourteen numbers never felt so right." we believe that this suggest the telephone number digits, describing how he feels speaking to anyone else could not feel as right as it does with this person.

"How do I explain this kind of feeling? I never got enough attention as a child." These lines make reference to his past, it could arguably suggest the reason why he loves hearing this girl's voice so much.

"And now I'm staring at the ceiling, With the phone in my hand, Hoping you'll make it ring" This is a line that the audience can instantly relate to, everyone has experienced the moment when you want someone to reply to a message or call you, the audience can relate to the artist making him seem more down to earth and similar to his audience.

"How 'bout this 6, Is there like a 6 in there? Or is it 0-6? Um, I cant even really hear anything, Goddamit, Ugh!" Here the song is broken down, to have a conversational speech in the middle of it, this is commonly used in other songs also, it adds character and depth to the song again relating to something the audience would likely experience.

Overall the lyrics of the song are conversational and very in touch with the target audience of the genre, therefore resulting in a successful adaptation of the waiting period of wanting to speak to someone you like.
